NEW HAVEN BOARD OF ALDERMEN VOTE PAVES THE WAY FOR SCIENCE PARK DEVELOPMENT
(9/8/2010) This evening’s (Sept. 8) there is unanimous vote by the New Haven Board of Aldermen to allow for zoning changes for the development of the former Winchester Arms factory on Winchester Avenue will pave the way for important economic development opportunities in this neighborhood of the City. With the leadership of Dixwell/Newhallville Alderpersons, the Board agreed to changes necessary for multi-use development to take place at the old gun factory. This is the first step in allowing New Haven-based Higher One to stay in the City by providing a new location where Higher One, can expand to. This action will encourage similar companies to move to the Dixwell/Newhallville neighborhoods and grow jobs and wealth in this section of New Haven.
This PDD amendment will allow for new commercial/office, residential and retail uses to create a vibrant mixed use project while preserving these historic structures. This redevelopment effort will contribute to the ongoing rejuvenation of this neighborhood improving quality of life and opportunities for existing and future residents.
